Karangahake Gorge circa 2000
Karangahake Gorge in the Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park is a popular tourist stop, with old gold mining ruins and tunnels, old railway tunnel and walking and cycling tracks. The Ohinemuri River roars, or sometimes meanders through the gorge. Visit doc.govt.nz for more information about the area. A visit to The Ohinemuri Estate with it's food and fine wine is an excellent way to end the day.
